The Rupiah Burn Formula
Here's a simple formula I use with every client:
Monthly Cost = (Time per task × Frequency × Monthly wage equivalent) ÷ Productivity factor
Let's break it down:
- Time per task: How many minutes/hours does one cycle take?
- Frequency: How many times per month?
- Monthly wage equivalent: The loaded cost of the person doing it (salary + benefits + overhead)
- Productivity factor: How much of their time is actually productive (typically 0.6-0.7)
Real Examples from Indonesian Companies
Example 1: Manual Invoice Processing

The Total Picture

Your Audit Checklist
Walk through your company and ask these questions for every process:
- Who does this? What's their loaded monthly cost?
- How long does one cycle take?
- How often does it happen?
- Is there any part of this that could be automated?
- What's the error rate on manual execution?
Then plug the numbers into the formula. You'll be shocked.
