Introducing CATable: Sovereign Blue Database Studio for Engineers Who Value Privacy & Speed
Why we built CATable: a 100% local-first, native multi-engine database studio supporting PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQLite, DuckDB, and Redis with zero telemetry and Blast-Radius protection.

Modern database clients have largely devolved into memory-hungry web wrappers wrapped in Electron. They consume gigabytes of RAM while idling, introduce perceptible latency when rendering large tables, and increasingly bundle background telemetry that monitors database names, query patterns, and connection schemas.

We engineered CATable to challenge this status quo. CATable is a sovereign desktop database studio built from the ground up in native Rust, designed to give software engineers, database administrators, and data analysts uncompromised speed, complete local control, and absolute privacy.

Multi-Engine Native Connectivity

Rather than relying on generic, slow JDBC or ODBC abstraction layers, CATable communicates directly with database engines using optimized native drivers:

The Blast-Radius Protection Shield

Accidentally executing an unindexed UPDATE or an unconstrained DELETE statement on production can lead to catastrophic downtime. CATable introduces the Blast-Radius Protection Shield:

  1. Before sending statements to any connection marked as Production, CATable parses the SQL Abstract Syntax Tree (AST).
  2. It identifies missing WHERE clauses, dangerous DDL operations (DROP, TRUNCATE), and unconstrained transactions.
  3. It initiates a pre-flight dry-run inside a temporary rollback transaction, calculates the exact number of rows that would be affected, and presents an explicit confirmation modal before executing the query.

Zero-Knowledge E2EE Cloud Sync

When working across multiple laptops and workstations, CATable allows synchronizing saved connection profiles and SQL scratchpads without exposing your infrastructure credentials. All payloads are encrypted locally using Argon2id (m=64MB, t=3, p=4) and AES-256-GCM / SQLCipher before leaving your machine. The sync relay server only ever stores opaque ciphertext blobs.

AI DBA Copilot (BYOK & Zero Telemetry)

CATable embeds an intelligent AI Database Administrator assistant that converts natural language instructions into dialect-specific SQL, suggests missing indexes by analyzing EXPLAIN ANALYZE query plans, and assists in designing schema migrations. The Copilot operates purely via Bring-Your-Own-Key (BYOK) or local models (Ollama / vLLM), guaranteeing zero telemetry.
